Poem by Dritëro Agolli

WOMEN FOR ME
I’ve loved each woman dearly,
On street, in room or cook-room,
On terrace, when they happen to be
Hanging clothes or using a broom.

I’ve ne’er bullyragged a woman in fight,
I’ve ne’er written badly on paper.
I’ll die.

Yet women will then cite:
“He was the truest bard ever.”

Translation from Albanian into English
By Alfred Kola
