Milan legend Kaka believes that Rafael Leao should stay with the Reds, but admits that this is the “right moment to leave” if he wants to.
The Portuguese is in talks to extend his contract with the Serie A giants, but an agreement has yet to be reached.
His current deal at San Siro expires in June 2024 and his lawyer Ted Dimvula confirmed on Thursday that his client wants to stay at the club.
“He is a fantastic player, I like him a lot”, said Kaka for “Gazzetta dello Sport”, speaking about Lea, lajmi.net reports.
“If he sees Italian football as a transitional moment in his career, then he should leave, now is the right time. I think he should stay because he doesn’t see Italian football as transitory and sometimes leaving Milan is not a good idea.”
The former Brazilian star left the Reds for Real Madrid in 2009 after winning a Serie A title, a Champions League and the Ballon d’Or at the San Siro.
He was asked if the Portugal star will also have to make such a move.
“I don’t like comparisons, I think Leao should consider all options,” Kaka said.
“Milan is giving him a lot. I met Galliani in Qatar during the World Cup and he said that Serie A has become a step in the players’ careers. I struggle to see it that way. Serie A remains a very challenging league for strikers, I don’t think it’s a small league, even if it has a different economic power. I learned a lot in Italy and became the player the fans remember.”
It remains to be seen whether the club and player management will be able to agree a deal for star player Leao.
