Diego Simeone has revealed that his future at Atletico Madrid will depend on how the club finish the season.
Atletico Madrid are currently fourth in La Liga, but find themselves ten points behind rivals Real Madrid and 13 behind league leaders,
After more than a decade in charge at Civitas Metropolitano, speculation is rife that the former Inter midfielder will seek a new adventure at the end of the season, but Simeone insisted that no decision has been made.
“My contract depends a lot on how we end the season,” he told reporters.
“Every final of the season we gather to see how we will continue. This year will not be an exception”, said the coach.
Asked for clarification on his comments, Simeone remained vague:
“It’s more complex than you suggest. You will find out when the season ends what will happen.”
The 52-year-old made more than 150 appearances for Atletico in two spells at the club during his playing days before hanging up his boots in 2006 and embarking on a coaching career.
After coaching several teams in Argentina and a brief stint in Italy, Simeone returned to the club with which he won La Liga and the Copa del Rey as a player in 2011
