RENT TO LIVE
We pay rent
to live on this earth.
We tread heavily
on the earth that supports us,
sometimes even hurting
it with our pride,
as if we were only passersby
on its back.
Freedom is a dream
realized before our eyes,
a light that pulses
in the veins of its people.
We are like birds in flight
over this land,
brave of the wind,
intoxicated by space,
and we sing to happiness,
this beautiful empire
called life.

One day I asked myself:
How much rent do we pay
to live on this land?
I smiled bitterly…
I knew the answer.
From the moment we are born
until our last breath,
we pay a rent
that is never paid.
We pay for it with our days,
with pains,
with loves,
with dreams that remain suspended
somewhere between heaven and earth.

I feel the pain…
But, as long as I breathe,
as long as my heart beats,
I know that my songs
will continue.
Because perhaps this is
the only rent
that we can give back to the earth:
a song,
a love,
a good footprint
and a heart that does not remain silent.
