Neymar has once again confirmed that he will not return to the Brazil national team, putting an end to all speculation about a possible comeback following the Seleção’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 34-year-old Santos forward, who announced his international retirement immediately after Brazil’s 2-1 defeat to Norway in the Round of 16, told Brazilian newspaper O Globo that his decision is final.
“I don’t want to anymore,” Neymar said, reiterating that his journey in the famous yellow jersey has come to an end.
Neymar retires from international football as Brazil’s all-time leading goalscorer, having scored 80 goals in 130 appearances. He also represented his country in four FIFA World Cup tournaments, cementing his place among the greatest players in Brazilian football history.
Following Brazil’s elimination from the 2026 World Cup, an emotional Neymar reflected on his international career:
“I tried, I tried. It started here, and it ends here. Now it’s all over.”
Although Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazário has urged him to reconsider and not rush into retiring from international football, Neymar remains firm in his decision, insisting that his chapter with the Brazil national team has come to a close.
