Atlético Madrid have reportedly rejected FC Barcelona’s opening bid for Argentine striker Julián Álvarez.
The Catalan club recently submitted an offer worth €100 million for the Argentine forward, with no bonuses or players included in the proposal.
However, Atlético quickly turned down the bid and are reportedly willing to enter negotiations only if Barcelona increase their offer to around €120 million.
Despite this setback, Barcelona remain encouraged by Álvarez’s desire to make the move.
Reports claim that the 26-year-old has already informed Atlético Madrid that he wants to join the La Liga champions, while personal terms have also reportedly been agreed between the player and Barcelona.
As a result, the transfer fee remains the only major obstacle to completing the deal, with all parties eager to reach a resolution before the World Cup rather than allowing negotiations to drag on throughout the summer.
