Carlo Ancelotti, former coach of Real Madrid, has given strong support to Jose Mourinho for a sensational return to the “Santiago Bernabeu.” As “Los Blancos” go through a difficult transitional period, the legendary Italian believes that the current Benfica coach is the right man to restore order in the Spanish capital.
With the coaching “carousel” at Real Madrid continuing to spin, Ancelotti has emerged as one of the strongest voices in favor of Mourinho’s possible return.
Ancelotti, who in 2013 took charge of Real Madrid immediately after Mourinho and led the club to the famous “La Decima” in the Champions League, believes that “The Special One” still has all the qualities needed to manage the most demanding club in the world.
“If he returns to Real Madrid, I will truly be happy for him. He can do a fantastic job, just as he has always done at every club he has managed,” said Ancelotti.
Earlier reports had suggested that Xabi Alonso found the squad “impossible to train” during a short period, but Ancelotti reacted immediately by defending the professionalism of the players in the dressing room and using strong language to dismiss claims of uncontrolled egos.
“No, because that makes it seem like the players at Real Madrid do whatever they want. That is not true. Absolute nonsense. Absolute nonsense,” he said.
“It’s not true! The players… when I was there, I had an idea and I tried to discuss that idea with the players, and then I would see whether they agreed or not.”
“We even did this before the Champions League final. When I have an idea, the player has to be part of that idea. I don’t want to impose the strategy. But that does not mean we don’t have a strategy.”
According to Ancelotti, for Mourinho to succeed in a second spell at Real Madrid, he must prioritize group management and relationships with players more than just the tactical side of the game.
