Real Madrid legend Toni Kroos has firmly dismissed any suggestion of a sensational return to professional football, two years after his decision to retire.
During his appearance at the Laureus World Sports Awards 2026, the 36-year-old made it clear that he has no intention of changing his decision, despite ongoing speculation linked to the current situation in Madrid. At the ceremony, Kroos was honored with the “Inspiration Award” in recognition of his outstanding career, which includes a FIFA World Cup title and six UEFA Champions League trophies.
The German icon retired from football in 2024, but since then he has consistently faced questions about a possible comeback, especially in the context of helping stabilize Real Madrid’s current squad.
“I have never thought about it, because I retired exactly how I wanted. I closed that chapter, and even if I were to consider a return, now it is too late,” he said.
