Real Madrid Targets Major Defensive Reinforcements

Real Madrid is looking to strengthen its central defense during the summer transfer window and has begun searching for a new defender.

The club’s objective is to bring in a top-level player to replace the possible departures of David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger.

One of the options being seriously considered is Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté. Interest in Konaté dates back to last summer, although in November it seemed that the matter had been closed after the Madrid club informed the Liverpool defender that they would no longer pursue his transfer.

However, the situation has changed in recent weeks, as Real Madrid missed the opportunity to sign Marc Guéhi, who joined Manchester City in January, and Dayot Upamecano, who renewed his contract with Bayern Munich.

Nico Schlotterbeck has recently been mentioned as another possible candidate, but according to a report from BILD, Konaté is currently Real Madrid’s main candidate for the centre-back position.

Konaté is considered a more attractive option than Schlotterbeck because he could arrive as a free agent, whereas the Borussia Dortmund defender would require a significant transfer fee.

Moreover, he would be an ideal replacement for a player like Rüdiger, whose numerous absences this season could lead the club to decide not to offer him a contract renewal before his current deal expires in June.
