Barcelona escape defeat against Club Brugge thanks to a VAR decision in stoppage time

A spectacular, high-tempo, and emotional match took place in Belgium, where Club Brugge and Barcelona shared the points after a dramatic 3–3 draw.

The home side took an early lead through Nicolo Tresoldi (6’), but Ferran Torres (8’) quickly equalized after a beautiful combination with Fermin Lopez.

Club Brugge responded immediately and regained the advantage in the 17th minute with Carlos Forbs, finishing off a fast counterattack to make it 2–1.

Barcelona managed to fight back in the second half. First, Lamine Yamal (61’) leveled the score at 2–2 after a perfect assist from Fermin Lopez, while Eric Garcia struck the crossbar shortly afterward.

Forbs then produced a stunning goal in the 64th minute, chipping the ball over goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny to restore Brugge’s lead at 3–2. In the 77th minute, under heavy pressure from Barcelona, Christos Tzolis was unlucky to deflect the ball into his own net, bringing the score to 3–3.

Club Brugge had a tense moment when they were awarded a penalty in the 71st minute, but after a VAR review, referee Anthony Taylor overturned the decision.

Extra time brought even more drama. In the 90+1st minute, following a huge mistake by goalkeeper Szczesny, Romeo Vermant found the net, seemingly securing a 4–3 victory for Brugge. However, after another VAR review, referee Taylor spotted a foul in the buildup and disallowed the goal, leaving the home fans frustrated.

After this result, Club Brugge now have 5 points, while Barcelona are on 7 points, complicating their race for the top spot in the group.
