Hailee Steinfeld is an American actress, model and singer, who in her short career so far has given many memorable performances. She first became famous for her portrayal of Mattie Ross in the movie ‘True Grit’. She was thirteen years old at the time. Her strong and confident performance earned her numerous critical awards and many people already got a glimpse of the star she was about to become. Renonwed for her musical prowess and versatility, she has bagged in numerous awards and accolades, including a ‘Billboard Music Award,’ a ‘Peabody Award,’ and a ‘Critics’ Choice Movie Awards.’ She has also been nominated for a ‘Golden Globe Award,’ a ‘British Academy Film Award,’ a ‘Screen Actors Guild Award,’ an ‘Academy Award,’ and three ‘Critics’ Choice Movie Awards.’ She earned nominations for ‘BAFTA Award,’ an ‘Academy Award,’ and ‘Screen Actors Guild Award’ for her performance in western drama film ‘True Grit.’ She earned prominence for her performances in ‘3 Days to Kill,’ ‘Ender’s Game,’ ‘Begin Again,’ and ‘Romeo & Juliet.’ She also earned critical acclaim for her roles in the coming-of-age comedy-drama film ‘The Edge,’ and ‘Pitch Perfect’ film series.
Hailee Steinfeld was born on the December 11, 1996, in Los Angeles, California, to Peter and Cheri Steinfeld. Her mother is an interior designer while her father is a personal fitness trainer. She has a brother named Griffin.
She spent her early childhood in Agoura Hills and then in Thousand Oaks, California. She attended the Ascension Lutheran School, Conejo Elementary and Colina Middle School. Hailee Steinfeld has been homeschooled since 2008, due to bullying and acting schedule.
Hailee Steinfeld began acting at the age of 8 and appeared in several short films. She was a part of the award winning short film ‘She’s a Fox’ and played the character of Talia Alden.
At the age of thirteen, she was chosen for the role of Mattie Ross in the movie ‘True Grit.’ The film was released internationally in 2010. Her performance was appreciated by many critics and she was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
In May 2011, 5 months after ‘True Grit’ was released, Hailee Steinfeld became the new face of the Italian designer brand Miu Miu.
In 2011, she was cast to play Juliet Capulet in a modern adaptation of the evergreen Shakespeare play, ‘Romeo and Juliet’. Although the role was originally intended for a 20-year-old actress, Hailee Steinfeld was only fourteen at the time.
In 2013, Hailee was cast as Petra Arkanian in the science fiction adventure movie titled ‘Ender’s Game’.
Hailee Steinfeld played one of the protagonists in the Romance Drama ‘Begin Again’. The movie first saw a limited release on June 27, 2014 and was later re-released by the Weinstein Company on August 29, 2014.
She was cast as Eliza in the film adaptation of ‘Ten Thousand Saints’, which premiered on January 23, 2015, at the 2015 Sundance Festival.
She has also been cast as the star of the film adaptation of ‘Carrie Pilby’ which is a Young Adult Novel by Caren Lissner.
In March 2015, Hailee Steinfeld dubbed for the character of Anna in the English version of the Japanese animated film titled ‘When Marnie Was There’.
