Following the peace agreement between Israel and Hamas regarding Gaza, signed on Monday in Sharm el-Sheikh, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has pledged the full support of the world’s top football body for the repair and reconstruction of Gaza’s football infrastructure as part of post-war rebuilding efforts.
“It is very important for FIFA to be here — to support, to help, and to assist in ensuring that this peace process becomes a reality,” Infantino stated after signing a document outlining plans for regional stability and reconstruction, according to the Reuters news agency, as reported by Gazeta Express.
The objective is to rebuild the damaged structures and create a dedicated fund to finance the construction of new football fields and youth programs.
“The role of football must be to support, unite, and bring hope. We will help rebuild all football facilities in Gaza and advance the sport together with the Palestinian Football Association, while creating opportunities for children through football,” Infantino further emphasized.
The FIFA president also announced that the organization will contribute by establishing a mini-camp and “FIFA Arenas,” inviting other partners to join the initiative, stressing that “football brings hope to children, and that is something extremely important.”
