Flick Admits Barcelona Are Favorites Against PSG

Barcelona return to the Champions League on Wednesday with a blockbuster clash against Paris Saint-Germain at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, Montjuïc. After their opening win over Newcastle United, the Catalans aim to secure another three points in the group stage.

Coach Hansi Flick, speaking at the pre-match press conference, admitted that Barça are seen as favorites:

“We have to work according to our plan. It won’t be easy because PSG will want the ball and know how to press. From the first second to the last minute, we must play at the highest level. This is the Champions League. We are Barcelona. We are favorites, but a tough job awaits us.”

Addressing the many injuries in both squads, Flick said:

“It’s part of football. Every coach wants to have his players ready, but we have to manage the schedule and the absences. I hope it will be a great match.”

Asked about goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, who will replace the injured Joan Garcia, Flick said: “I see him ready. We won three trophies last season with him in goal.”

Regarding the starting striker, he gave an enigmatic answer: “For 90 minutes we will need both. We’ll see who starts from the beginning.”
