Ruzhdi Gashi-The More You Justify Yourself to Others, the More Trouble You Invite

Life is filled with people who, directly or indirectly, want to know more about our decisions and actions. Often, in an attempt to please others or to maintain a social image, we begin to explain everything we do. Yet this need to give explanations, instead of bringing peace or understanding, often turns into a source of unnecessary trouble.

If you try to explain every decision you make, you open the door to criticism, misunderstandings, and interference. The more information you give others, the more they feel entitled to express opinions or interfere in your life. This creates an endless cycle: the more you explain, the more questions arise, and the more you feel obliged to justify yourself. Eventually, you may feel as though you are losing control over your own life.

This doesn’t mean you should ignore the opinions or suggestions of others, especially when they come from people who genuinely wish you well. But balance is essential. When explanations begin to cross the line of privacy or autonomy, they become a burden. At the end of the day, no one knows better than you what is truly best for you.

Moreover, constantly justifying yourself creates an expectation that can be exhausting to fulfill. People start demanding more and more, and if at some point you decide not to give explanations, they may interpret it as disrespect or disregard. This can lead to unnecessary conflicts or tensions in personal and professional relationships.

Another aspect is the impact this practice has on your self-esteem. When you feel the need to justify everything, it is as though you must prove your worth to others, gradually losing confidence in your own choices and decisions. Instead of living for yourself and your aspirations, you begin to live for the approval of others.

Therefore, it is important to set boundaries. You don’t have to explain every decision you make or every step you take. People will always have their opinions, no matter how much you try to please them. At the end of the day, your life is yours, and you are responsible for your own happiness and success.

Living without feeling obliged to justify everything is an act of liberation. It is a way to preserve inner peace and to live with integrity and self-awareness. Give explanations only to those who truly deserve them and who have a positive impact on your life. For everyone else, it is enough to remain true to yourself and move forward with pride and determination.
