When I Began to Love Myself
When I began to love myself
I understood that always, in every moment,
I am in the right place at the right time.
I realized that everything that happens is just—
from then on, I could be at peace.
Today I know: it is called FAITH.
When I began to love myself
I realized how easily someone could be hurt
When I tried to force my desires upon them,
even though I knew it was not the right time
and that person was not ready for it.
Today I know: it is called FREEDOM.
When I began to love myself
I recognized that emotional pain and suffering
are only warning signs that I am living
against my own truth.
Today I know: it is called BEING AUTHENTIC.
When I began to love myself
I stopped yearning for another life
and saw that everything around me
was simply an invitation to grow.
Today I know: it is called MATURITY.
When I began to love myself
I stopped running away from myself in free time
and ceased sketching grand projects for the future.
Now I do only what delights me and fulfills me,
what I love and what makes my heart smile,
in my own rhythm and pace.
Today I know: it is called SIMPLICITY.
When I began to love myself
I let go of everything unhealthy for me—
food, people, things, situations,
and anything that dragged me away from myself.
At first I called it “healthy selfishness,”
but today I know: it is called SELF-LOVE.
When I began to love myself
I stopped needing to always be right,
and in doing so, I made fewer mistakes.
Today I recognize: it is called HUMILITY.
When I began to love myself
I refused to go on living in the past
or worrying about the future.
Now I live only in this present moment,
where EVERYTHING happens.
Thus I live each day, and I call it AWARENESS.
When I began to love myself
I realized that my thinking
could make me anxious and restless.
But when I called upon the strength of my heart,
my mind became a valuable partner.
Today I call this bond WISDOM OF THE HEART.
We need not fear more arguments,
conflicts, or problems with ourselves and others,
for even the stars sometimes collide with one another
and create new worlds.
Today I know: THIS IS LIFE!
