He Who Thinks He Can, Can – and He Who Thinks He Cannot, Cannot

Written by Ruzhdi Gashi, writer and positive thinking coach

The human mind is an extraordinary power that can determine our success or failure in life. Every action begins with a thought, and the way we approach challenges is shaped by the belief we have in ourselves. The saying “He who thinks he can, can – and he who thinks he cannot, cannot” reflects the importance of mindset and self-confidence as decisive factors in every endeavor we undertake.

The one who believes they can achieve a goal begins the journey with a positive attitude and an open mindset toward success. Belief generates energy, motivation, and courage to face any obstacle. Conversely, the one who starts with the thought that they cannot, limits themselves from the very beginning. Fear and doubt become barriers that stop them from even trying to move forward.

History has shown us countless examples of people who have exceeded expectations, not because they were more capable than others, but because they believed in themselves. They were not stopped by the fear of failure; instead, they saw it as an opportunity to learn and improve. For them, every obstacle was a challenge that could be overcome, because their minds were prepared for success.

On the other hand, those who give up before they even try miss the opportunities life offers them. This attitude often stems from negative thinking and a lack of self-belief. They see challenges as insurmountable and trap themselves in a cycle of failure—not because they are incapable, but because they believe they are.

To succeed, we must start by believing it is possible. Positive thinking is not merely a feeling, but a powerful tool that shapes our behavior and the results we achieve. When we believe we can, we create energy and determination to work toward our goals. When our mind is aligned with our objectives, nothing is impossible.

Therefore, the choice is always ours. Will we allow our thoughts to hold us back, or will we use their power to move forward? In the end, success does not depend on external abilities, but on the strength we carry within. “He who thinks he can, can” is a call to believe in ourselves and take control over the thoughts that shape our lives.
