Remember Me When I Am Gone
Remember me when I have gone,
Gone into the infinity of the silent earth;
When you can no longer hold my hand,
Nor see me leave to return — but gone to stay.
Remember me when there was no day
Without you telling me
The plans for our future:
Just remember; understand
Then it will be too late for advice or for prayer.
And still, if you must forget me for a while
And then remember me again, do not despair:
For if darkness and decay
Leave traces upon the thoughts I once held,
Better that you forget me in time — and smile.
