Chelsea was recently crowned Club World Champion after defeating PSG in the final with a score of 3–0.
Today, FIFA officially confirmed that the London Blues are the only team so far to have won the Club World Cup under the new format.
While a similar competition existed in the past, all previously won titles by various clubs no longer signify that those teams were world champions. Instead, they are now recognized only under the title of “FIFA Intercontinental Champions.”
The club with the most titles in the history of the previous format was Real Madrid (5), followed by Barcelona (3).
It’s worth noting that this new FIFA format will be held every four years.
