I Too Will Go Away
I too will go away.
And only the birds will remain, singing;
My garden will remain, with its green tree
and its white well.
Every afternoon,
the sky will be blue and calm;
and the bells of the bell tower
will touch it, as they did that day.
Those who loved me will pass away;
and the city will renew itself each year;
and in that corner of the blooming, white garden,
my nostalgic soul will drift astray…
But I will be gone; and I will be alone, without a home,
without a green tree, without a white well,
without a blue and quiet sky…
And only the birds will remain, singing.
