Happiness is not having what you want.It is appreciating what you have.

Written by Ruzhdi Gashi, writer and positive thinking coach

In the pursuit of happiness, we often chase big dreams, desires that seem unreachable, and wealth we believe will fulfill us. But the truth is that happiness does not lie in achieving every wish, but in the ability to appreciate what we already have. When we realize this, we begin to see life through different eyes.

A person who constantly aims for more without pausing to see what they have achieved lives in a constant state of lack. Even when they get what they once dreamed of, after a while, they forget it and long for something else. This endless cycle of desires creates the illusion that happiness is always one step ahead—but never where we are.

On the other hand, a person who knows how to value the moment, their health, the people around them, and the smallest blessings in their life is rich in spirit. They don’t need much to feel good—because they know how to be grateful. Gratitude is the foundation of lasting happiness. It teaches us to pause, reflect, and realize that we may already have more than we ever thought.

To desire is human, but to be thankful is wisdom. Happiness is not a destination, but a way of living. It is a feeling that arises when the heart is at peace with reality, not when the mind is chasing what is missing.

If today we wake up with our health, someone who loves us, a piece of bread on the table, and a reason to smile—we are more blessed than millions of others. Happiness has nothing to do with the perfection of life, but with the attention we give to the beauty it already holds, exactly as it is.
