I’m the one standing on the embers of the homeland, most precious,
I never knew tomorrow’s appointment,
Nor will they bring it… early.
I never knew the sunset,
Nor a sigh…
A tear of wailing
Down the cheeks…
Flowing.
I surrendered my leopard…
They added to it and subtracted.
My life melts away in minutes,
They finished it.
Pray for me,
And pray for the homeland to remain.
At the hour of death…
Bring my history and dissect it.
I lived by the beautiful name,
Pure.
A boy toiling on the land,
And objecting…
Demonstrating.
I loved kind people…
They were the most important in my life.
And the Nile cast me upon the homeland’s bridge…
Manifest.
The face of the anthem
A twin to my laughter,
They took it to share with the poor…
With hands that show no mercy.
My love for the ownership of hands
I can reach it.
Don’t blame me,
For I truly…dream of it.
Hand me the joy of angels…
To steady my feet.
Hand me my wound…
Stop it… from bleeding.
Hand me my pen…
So I can write a poem with it.
My body wrapped by the Nile… and my soul
Witnessing from above…
My pyramid.
I’m the one standing on the embers of the homeland.Poem by: Abdel latif Moubarak….. Egyptian poet
