Poem by Wiliam Blake

There is a smile of love
And there is a smile of deceit
And there is a smile of smiles
Where these two smiles meet.

And there is a frown of hatred
And there is a frown of disdain
And there is a frown of frowns
You try in vain to forget.

For it clings to the marrow of hearts
And sinks deep in the spine,
And it is no smile that was ever a smile
But a smile that stands alone.

It lies between the cradle and the grave—
It may be but a single smile,
But once it becomes a smile,
It is the end of all sorrow.
