Remember Me When I Am Gone
Remember me when I am gone,
Gone into the endlessness of silent earth;
When you can no longer hold my hand,
Nor I return again — I go to stay.
Remember when there wasn’t a day
Without us speaking of our plans ahead:
Just remember; you’ll understand —
By then it’s too late for advice or prayer.
Yet if you must forget me for a while
And then remember, do not grieve:
For if darkness and decay
Leave traces on the thoughts I once had,
Then better you forget me in time — and smile.
