Poem by Hajnrih Hajne:

They stand still
Full of stars above,
For thousands of years they’ve gazed
With sorrow for love.

And they speak a language
So rich, so fair;
But none of the philologists
Knows the tongue they share.

Yet I have learned it—
I’ve never let it stray;
Her beloved face
Was my grammar every day.
