Poem by Ismail Kadare

Longing
Few drops of rain on pane rolled down,
Longing for you I felt at once.
We both do live in the same town,
We rarely see each other by chance.

And it all seems like a surprise
How autumn came, what is this morrow,
There are no storks grey are the skies
Amid the rains without a rainbow.

And the old saying of Heraclitus
I did recall unfortunately:
“On Earth the wakers are together,
Whereas the sleepers are separately”.

What is this dream without a dawn,
Up we perhaps both can not get?….
Few drops of rain on pane rolled down
Longing for you was all I felt.
