Poem by Aleksandar Pushkin

Oh my maiden, when I’m with you
there are no more tears, no sorrow for you.
Yet my thoughts drift back to Georgia,
to the shores I left behind, so true.

A song of the soul — it’s meant to be,
but memories won’t let me be free:
the steppes, the night, that silent moon,
and my friend far off, I see.

I have you here, but still can’t forget
her shadow filled with love so deep.
When you sing, I paint her portrait
in the eyes that my heart keeps.

Oh my maiden, when I’m with you
there are no more tears, no sorrow for you.
Yet back I’m drawn to Georgia’s land,
to another life on its shores so blue.
