Opta’s supercomputer predicts Club World Cup winner – no hope for Real Madrid

Opta’s supercomputer has backed Paris Saint-Germain to win the Club World Cup, giving Luis Enrique’s side a 20.6 percent chance of lifting the trophy after their first triumph in the Champions League.

Manchester City is very close behind with a 20.4 percent chance, with their dominant performances in the group stage making them strong contenders.

Chelsea have been given a 10.4 percent chance of victory, placing them ahead of Real Madrid, who have only a 9.7 percent chance under new manager Xabi Alonso. Inter Milan (12.4 percent) and Bayern Munich (11.3 percent) complete the top five favourites, while Palmeiras is the best non-European team with a modest 0.9 percent chance.

The Blues face Benfica in the round of 16 and are favourites to advance, with a 59 percent chance of winning that match.

Meanwhile, PSG will meet Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami in a high-profile clash at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The knockout stage takes place from June 28 to July 2, while the final is scheduled for July 13..
