Roma has officially appointed Gian Piero Gasperini as its new head coach, with a contract that ties him to the club until June 2028. He will work closely with Claudio Ranieri, who will serve as a special advisor.
The decision was made last week but was only made official this afternoon through a statement. The club praised Gasperini for his creative tactics, tireless work ethic, and ability to develop young players.
“Both the owners and Claudio Ranieri believe that Gasperini is the right man for this new project,” the statement reads.
The 66-year-old coach recently ended his long and successful tenure at Atalanta, where nine remarkable years elevated the club to new heights: he won the Europa League, reached the Coppa Italia final, the Champions League quarterfinals, and secured Champions League qualification five times in seven seasons.
Ranieri, who led Roma to a fifth-place finish in Serie A this season, played a key role in the decision to bring in Gasperini, as he decided to step down from the bench but remain close to the team as an advisor.
Gasperini is expected to begin his first training sessions with the new squad very soon and was photographed signing the contract alongside Ranieri and sporting director Florent Ghisolfi.
