Hansi Flick has had a very successful first season as Barcelona’s coach, but not everyone in Catalonia is happy with him. Specifically, one of his players has spoken out against him this week.
That player is Pablo Torre, who was recently interviewed by Sport. The young midfielder shared his thoughts on the 2024–25 season with Barcelona, during which he played far fewer minutes than he had hoped for.
“I think I could have played many more minutes; I believe I deserved them. There was a lot of competition and it was hard to break through, but I also think that in that regard, Flick wasn’t fair with me, and I told him so in a conversation we had,” said Torre.
“I don’t think I played poorly when I was on the pitch. These are decisions the coach makes. It’s true there weren’t many injuries, which also made it very difficult for him to choose. I respect his decisions, but many times I didn’t understand them.”
Despite this, Torre admitted that he has improved as a player during this period, with help from his teammates.
“It’s true I didn’t get all the minutes I would have liked, but in the end, it’s been three years in teams with maximum competition, and it was very difficult to get playing time. I think that when I did play, I performed very well, and I believe I deserved much more across all these years,” Torre emphasized.
“That’s football, and I feel like a much better player now. Training with top-level players helps you grow more and more.”
Torre is under contract until 2026, but at this stage, it seems certain that he will leave Barcelona during this summer’s transfer window. A move to the Bundesliga has been rumored in recent weeks, which could give him the opportunity to play more regularly in a first team.
