Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was seen in tears after Sunday’s dramatic El Clásico victory over Real Madrid at Montjuic.
The Polish star played the full match and couldn’t hold back his tears following the win that brought Barcelona closer to the league title.
Szczesny spoke after the match and explained why he was so emotional:
“I always try to control my emotions and not show them, whether positive or negative. But after the final whistle, it was very difficult for me,” he told Canal+.
“My eyes filled with tears. It was a wonderful moment.”
The goalkeeper also spoke about the importance of this season for him, after deciding to come out of retirement to join the Catalan club:
“I was retired, and now I find myself in this situation. It may seem strange because Inter knocked us out, but this Barça team is now the best in the world,” he added.
“What these young guys are doing is impressive and they deserve to be rewarded. It’s a shame we didn’t win everything, but we were very close and we’ve built something really important for the future.”
