U.S. President Donald Trump said today that he expects to reach a trade deal with China, although he did not provide details or indicate how negotiations between the two superpowers might begin, Reuters reported.
“I think we’re going to make a very good deal with China,” Trump said.
Earlier today, China’s Ministry of Commerce called on the United States to stop exerting “extreme pressure” on the world’s second-largest economy and urged adherence to all trade rules.
However, both sides remain at an impasse over who should initiate the talks, according to Reuters.
While Trump has temporarily eased the recently announced high tariffs on goods from dozens of trading partners, he has maintained new import duties on Chinese goods, which now reach up to 145 percent.
