Poem by Kujtim Hajdari

I LOVED LIFE
I loved life like a madman, I loved it,
The dance of love swept me away from the earliest dawns,
Since I began to swing in the cradle of existence,
Since I was very small – an infant,
Since I gifted my first cries to the endless universe.

They say I came out with open eyes,
With a heart that fluttered and murmured songs,
Like a sprout nourished by the gentle glow of sunlight.
Around me, the world spun in a dizzying fright,
While I, innocent,
I saw it as a kaleidoscope of wonders,
And the blue sky always seemed smiling,
And I followed white doves when they flew high,
And above my cradle,
My mother’s lullabies carried the scent of jasmine.

Then, the long spiral of life,
Began to wrap me in magical enigmas,
On its paths that often seemed like labyrinths,
I still loved it and smiled at it with naivety,
(Even though the years bent my back with their weight)
Like only a true lover knows how to smile.
In dazzling enchantment,
I lost myself in its ancient secrets,
As I lost myself in the caress of petals,
Soft and full of colors of a flower that intoxicated me,
As I forgot in the fury of a thorn,
That bitterly bit my foot, unknowingly,
As I slept covered in the silver light of stars,
Drenched in dreams of love embraced by the night.

I adored the cries and laughter of children,
The melodies of sweet innocence,
That rose into the air and created ripples of breeze,
Where the choir of hopes sang,
And blossomed the dreams of the future.

I gathered with love in my great pain,
The tears of a mother, that flowed like rivers,
Where mercy and the desire of sanctity,
Afforest all the loves
.

I adored and loved with my soul,
The sighs of the hero, who carried the stories,
And I marveled and lost myself in daydreams,
Under the hushed silence of the late-night shadows.
That gathered and awakened all the nostalgia in me.
I lost myself in the depth of my beloved’s eyes,
In the songs, melodies, and rainbows of love
Until a cry of joy awakened me
In the intoxicating embrace of happiness.

The universe opened into endless galaxies of joys,
Expanded with other colors of life,
The skies took me as a groom in a dance,
The stars with fiery embers,
Burned the bachelor’s handkerchief.

I raised endless spirals of love in song,
All my life and never tired,
Her constellations full of light,
Filled my lungs.

I remained a frenzied dancer of dreams,
Until the near dusk that sleeps under the azure sky,
Even under the bitter noise of birds,
That clashed in the glassy darkness,
And shook skeletons of phantom memories.

I loved life, and time was never enough for me,
For I know, I will miss it greatly in eternity
There, beyond in the cold ground, I know,
I won’t be able to wander as I do here,
And revel in the gardens of love.
Love life in this world, o people, without limits!
