Liverpool can take another big step toward securing the Premier League title when they face Fulham this weekend.
The Reds restored their 12-point lead at the top of the table after a 1-0 win over rivals Everton in the midweek Merseyside derby. Arne Slot’s side needs just 13 points from the remaining 24 available in their last eight matches to seal the title.
However, this could happen even sooner if their closest challengers, Arsenal, continue to drop points—with Everton potentially doing Liverpool a favor when they face the Gunners on Saturday.
To add more pressure on Arsenal, Mohamed Salah could equal a long-standing record held by Thierry Henry and break another—both set in August 2003—if he contributes to two goals this weekend.
Fulham couldn’t influence the title race after losing 2-1 to Mikel Arteta’s side last week, but they now have another chance.
When Can Liverpool Win the Title?
The Reds need four wins and one draw to secure the 13 points required to clinch their second Premier League trophy.
That would leave the club with 86 points—one more than Arsenal could achieve if they won all their remaining matches.
The earliest Liverpool could mathematically win the title is Sunday, April 20.
For this to happen, Slot’s team would need to win their next two matches against Fulham and West Ham, while Arsenal would have to lose against both Everton and Brentford.
The Premier League’s top two teams will also play on April 20, with the Gunners needing to avoid a loss or a draw against Ipswich. If Arsenal fails to win, Liverpool could be crowned champions before even kicking a ball against Leicester.
If Arsenal manages to match Liverpool’s results, the Reds’ chance to secure domestic glory could come against Chelsea on Sunday, May 4.
