Kylian Mbappe has equaled Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal tally in his first season with Real Madrid, following the two goals he scored last night.
The Frenchman spoke after Real Madrid’s 3-2 victory against Leganes.
“It was a tough match. After international duty, it’s always difficult to return to club football. We know what we have to do every time—win. We started well, scored the first goal, although we didn’t play well for about 20 minutes after that. We knew that if we played well, we would score two more goals and turn the game around, and that’s exactly what happened.”
“We had worked on this a few weeks ago with the staff. I knew I could shoot in that direction and in that way. I saw the space, and my teammates allowed me to take the shot. It was a collective effort with the staff. We are all together; we are a family. Even the celebration with Llopis (the goalkeeping coach) was a way to show this,” Mbappe told Real Madrid TV.
He also commented on matching Ronaldo’s goal tally of 33 in his first season.
“It’s something very special. I’m sure the most important thing is the results you achieve with the team, but scoring as many goals as Cristiano is always something positive. We all know what he represents for Real Madrid and for me. He gives me a lot of advice; he has scored so many goals. I want to win trophies here,” he said.
