Cristiano Ronaldo gave an interview to Spanish media just before his 40th birthday. He stated that he is the best footballer in history.
“I have scored 923 goals so far, but it doesn’t matter if I reach 930, 950, or any other number in my career. If I manage to score 1000, great. If not, that’s also fine. But the numbers don’t lie—I am the best footballer in history, and that’s it,” he is quoted as saying.
The Al Nassr player continued: “Maybe you prefer Pelé, Messi, or Maradona. I understand and respect that, but I am the best and most complete player ever. I have never seen a better footballer than myself. I am good in the air, I take free kicks well, I shoot well with both my left and right foot… I am fast, strong, I jump high… To say that Ronaldo is not a complete footballer? There is no footballer more complete than me.”
“I Was Close to Joining Barcelona”
Ronaldo revealed that he was close to joining Barcelona: “When I was still at Sporting Lisbon, Barcelona wanted to sign me. There was a transfer agreement that would have sent me there a year later. But then Manchester United came and took me immediately.”
“I Was Happiest at Real Madrid, but I Wanted to Move Forward”
Ronaldo emphasized: “I was happiest at Real Madrid; that club and city will always be in my heart.” However, he also explained why he decided to leave for Juventus: “I wanted a new challenge, a new chapter in my life. I told President Florentino Pérez that I wanted to leave, and he accepted it at the time.
But during the negotiations for my departure, things didn’t go so well for me. I understand that because he always does this. He wanted me to come back, but I couldn’t because I had already told Juventus that I was coming.”
