Real Madrid Confirms Mbappé’s Injury

Real Madrid’s French forward, Kylian Mbappé (25), has been diagnosed with a left thigh injury, the La Liga club announced on Thursday, casting doubt on his availability for next week’s FIFA Intercontinental Cup final.

Mbappé was substituted during the first half of Real Madrid’s 3-2 Champions League victory against Atalanta on Tuesday, after scoring the opening goal for his team in the 10th minute.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti later stated that Mbappé had suffered an overload, a discomfort in the ischiatic area (lower pelvic region), adding that he didn’t consider it a serious injury but would wait for further medical examinations.

Mbappé, who also scored in last weekend’s 3-0 win against Girona, is likely to miss Saturday’s league match against Rayo Vallecano and faces a race against time to recover for the Intercontinental Cup final next Wednesday in Qatar.

Real Madrid will face either Mexico’s Pachuca or Egypt’s Al Ahly, who are set to play on Saturday.
