Chelsea legend and former manager Frank Lampard has emerged as a surprising candidate to take charge of Roma, as the pressure continues to mount on Ivan Juric.
Croatian coach Juric took over the team from Olimpico in September, but has faced increasing difficulties early this season and could be dismissed after 10 games.
He has only won four of those games, with a fourth defeat seeing the Giallorossi lose 3-2 in Verona in their last match. Roma’s ownership team is reportedly already considering replacements for Juric, with Friedkin having held discussions during recent visits to London and Paris. Events in the Italian capital were reportedly one of the topics discussed
.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, former Juventus and Inter star Paulo Sousa—who has managed Fiorentina and Salernitana—is the favorite to take charge of Roma as he returns to Italy from a period with Shabab Al Ahli in Dubai. Euro 2020 coach Roberto Mancini is also on the list of candidates, along with Claudio Ranieri, who has extensive experience. Gazzetta reports that Lampard is another option under consideration, despite his mixed record across two stints managing Chelsea and a season at Everton.
Friedkin is in the process of trying to finalize the acquisition of Everton and has been informed by those at Goodison Park that former England international Lampard could be a good option for them in Serie A. However, no final decisions have yet been made regarding Juric and his successor.
