Ruben Amorim has officially been appointed as Manchester United’s new manager, with the club announcing the hiring of the Portuguese coach today. Even though he hasn’t yet arrived, English media report that Amorim already has a clear vision for the squad he wants to build and has identified certain players who will not be part of his plans.
Amorim’s first big Premier League challenge as United’s manager will be against Arsenal, a team he famously eliminated from the Europa League last year with Sporting Lisbon.
Four players are reportedly out of Amorim’s project at United: Brazilian winger Antony, midfielders Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, and center-back Victor Lindelof. It appears these players have no future at Old Trafford under Amorim’s direction.
The anticipated formation is a 3-4-3 setup. In defense, Martinez, De Ligt, and Yoro (once fully recovered from injury) are expected to line up in front of the goalkeeper. The midfield, from left to right, will likely feature Garnacho, Ugarte, Maino, and Dalot. The attack would consist of Rashford, Hojlund, and Fernandes as a right winger. With these choices, Zirkzee, a summer signing for €50 million, could also find himself left out of the lineup.
This is Sporting’s press release on the compensation figures after Amorim’s departure: “Sporting SAD, following Article 17 of EU Regulation No. 596/2014 of the European Parliament and Council dated April 16, confirms the following: Sporting SAD has reached an agreement with Manchester United FC regarding the terms and conditions of manager Ruben Amorim’s departure, for which MUFC will pay Sporting €10 million.
Additionally, Sporting will receive €1,658,000 for the cancellation of loan rights registered as contingent obligations, following the revocation and renegotiation of intermediary contracts.”
