Real Madrid aims to add Rodri’s experience to their midfield to complement the energy of their younger players for next season.
According to AS, Real Madrid is planning to refresh its midfield with the addition of Manchester City’s midfielder, Rodri.
The current Champions League and La Liga winners have not started the season in form following Toni Kroos’ departure and believe that Rodri’s arrival could take the team to another level. Real Madrid has not begun the current campaign as expected, suffering a 4-0 home defeat to Barcelona last weekend and an unexpected 1-0 loss to Lille in the Champions League.
With Kroos’ departure, much was expected from Los Blancos’ midfield, which consists of names like Jude Bellingham, Fede Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, and Aurelien Tchouameni. However, so far, they have not managed to have a cohesive impact on the game.
Rodri, who was awarded the 2024 Ballon d’Or in Paris this week, could be the solution to many of these issues. At 28 years old, he is regarded as the best player in the world in his position.
His performances for Man City have contributed to the club’s recent dominance in English football, while Spain managed to win a major international trophy after 12 years, with Rodri at the heart of midfield in Euro 2024.
City is interested in keeping him for a long time, but Rodri is not in a hurry to renew his contract due to uncertainties over the potential consequences of Financial Fair Play (FFP) violations, considering City faces 115 charges. Rodri was born in Villanueva de la Cañada, a municipality around 40 kilometers from the Santiago Bernabeu. Before joining the Citizens, he played for Real’s rivals, Atletico Madrid.
Real Madrid will aim to bounce back from the heavy El Clasico defeat when they visit Mestalla this week to play against Valencia, who are at the bottom of La Liga.
Meanwhile, Rodri suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury during Manchester City’s Premier League match against Arsenal in September. He has been ruled out for the rest of the season and will have to support the team from the stands.
