Franck Ribery went viral following his reaction after Vinicius didn’t win the Ballon d’Or last night.
On Monday evening, Manchester City star Rodri was announced as the 2024 Ballon d’Or winner. Before the ceremony, Real Madrid’s absence from the event was a major talking point, as the club had already learned that Vinicius would not win the night’s top prize.
After Rodri accepted the award, Vini Jr. posted on social media platform “X,” saying, “If necessary, I’ll do it ten more times. They’re not ready.”
Former Bayern and France international Franck Ribery also made his feelings known about this decision.
He posted a photo on his InstaStory with three laughing emojis.
In 2013, Ribery was widely considered the best player of the year, with many believing he would win the Ballon d’Or. However, the Frenchman finished in third place, behind Messi and Ronaldo.
In 2022, Franck Ribery spoke to Gazzetta Dello Sport, saying, “It was unfair. I had a successful season, and I think I deserved to win.”
Real Madrid issued a statement explaining their reason for boycotting the event.
“If the Ballon d’Or criteria didn’t select Vini as the best, then those same criteria should have chosen Carvajal. We believe the Ballon d’Or-UEFA organization shows no respect towards us,” the club told AFP and Spanish media.
