The start of the 2024/2025 season for Real Madrid has not gone as the management and players had hoped.
They have dropped points in four of the 11 matches played so far (3 draws, 1 loss), and since these winless games have come in La Liga, it means they are three points behind Barcelona.
Many people expected Real Madrid to win La Liga for the second consecutive time with ease, especially after the transfer of Kylian Mbappe.
However, this has not been the case, at least so far, and the French legend Emmanuel Petit has said the reason for this is quite clear.
“There are many things that Real Madrid needs to manage, like confidence and ego. The main problem for Real Madrid is not Mbappe, it’s in midfield.”
“Toni Kroos is not there, and Luka Modric is no longer the player he once was. For me, Kroos was the key man, and his absence is so significant that they no longer look like the same team.”
“They have great individual quality, but they no longer look like a team. Over the past few years, they won trophies because they played as a team, but at the moment, they are struggling to have the same feeling,” Petit said.
Real Madrid decided not to sign a new midfielder after the German’s retirement, relying on the options they have in the team like Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni.
