Pep Guardiola has revealed what Erling Haaland changed this summer in order to become even better this season.
On Saturday, Haaland continued his extraordinary form at the start of the season by scoring a hat-trick in the 3-1 victory against West Ham. The 24-year-old now has seven goals in three matches played, having scored against Chelsea in the opening round and then a hat-trick in the 4-1 victory against Ipswich Town.
With 70 goals scored in 69 Premier League games, Haaland is undoubtedly one of the best strikers to have landed in England.
Guardiola hesitated to speak about Haaland’s struggles during the season, but earlier this summer, he revealed that the Norwegian star was not in optimal shape last season. “After the 2022/2023 season, he had difficulties, perhaps because he didn’t have much rest,” Pep initially said. “I remember in the beginning when he would tell me, ‘I’m still tired, I have no energy left.'”
“He stays around 20 minutes or half an hour after the training session and practices finishing, ball control, and short passes,” Guardiola revealed.
“Last season, he never did this (extra work) because he wasn’t feeling well. Tired, frustrated, most of the season,” concluded the 53-year-old.
