Lille eliminates Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe from the Champions League

Lille has managed to eliminate Fenerbahçe from the third qualifying round of the Champions League.

The French team drew 1-1 in Turkey, securing their place in the next round thanks to an aggregate score of 2-3.

The derby between Fenerbahçe and Lille turned out to be quite intense from the start, with both teams creating scoring chances but lacking the finishing touch.

Fenerbahçe posed a threat through Szymanski and Allan Saint-Maximin, especially the latter, but he was unlucky in front of the French goal.

José Mourinho’s team managed to take the lead in the final moments, scoring through an own goal by Bafode Diakite (90+1’), sending the match into extra time.

The extra-time period was even more exciting, with both teams striving to score the winning goal.

Lille was reduced to ten men after Aissa Mandi received a straight red card for a harsh challenge, but they still managed to qualify.

It was Jonathan David who scored the winning goal, converting a penalty after a handball by an opposing defender (118’).

As a result, Lille progresses further, while Fenerbahçe will compete in the Europa League play-offs.
