Barcelona’s new coach, Hansi Flick, aims to bring a different style to the team.
Appointed in May on a two-year deal, the former Germany and Bayern Munich coach takes over following the departure of Xavi Hernandez, who was sacked after a trophyless season.
He has stated that while he respects the traditional passing style, he will focus more on scoring and winning matches.
“Here, the tradition is to play with passes, but I also want the players to go straight for the goal,” said Flick. “Players need to focus a bit more on scoring. I don’t think my style is very different.”
Flick also touched on pressing and playing in the opponent’s half. “I’m looking for the same thing, to press and play in the opponent’s half. But ultimately, it’s all about winning matches,” emphasized the German.
Barcelona will start their La Liga campaign on August 17 against Valencia.
