Pau Cubarsi quickly made his way from a surprise debutant in the first team in January to a regular starter at Barcelona in the last three months.
Now, it is reported that “Blaugranes” are determined to give him a new contract to secure his future, Gazeta Express reports.
The young Spanish center-back has a release clause of 10 million euros and was close to a move to Manchester City, but in recent months, there has been no sign that he wants to leave Barcelona.
According to “AS”, Barça will offer him a new five-year contract starting from January next season.
Currently, Cubarsi is tied to contracts that last three years, but once he turns 18, Barcelona will place him on a longer-term contract.
The contract will start with 4 million euros per season next year and will rise to 12 million euros per season by 2029. If it increases in equal amounts per season, he will see a rise of 2 million euros per year, every year, until the end of his contract.
This final annual salary of 12 million euros would place the 17-year-old among the top-paid players at Barcelona, as well as earning similar amounts to Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham now.
The new contract will also see his release clause increase, although it will fluctuate between 500 million and 1 billion euros.
Pau Cubarsi has been described by many as the best center-back of his generation in history, and he has certainly been a key part of Barcelona’s defensive improvement.
