Liverpool set an incredible new record in the Premier League

Liverpool has set a new record in the Premier League in their victory against Sheffield United on Thursday night.

The pressure was on Liverpool at Anfield after Manchester City and Arsenal won the night before, but Jurgen Klopp’s team did the job against a resilient Sheffield United. Goals from Darwin Nunez, Alexis Mac Allister, and Cody Gakpo gave the Reds a 3-1 victory that saw them return to the top of the Premier League table. Liverpool had nine shots on target – 29 in total – and completed 708 passes compared to their opponent’s 80.

However, it was the possession stats that saw the home team break a record in the Premier League.

Liverpool enjoyed an extraordinary possession of 83.1 percent, a new record in the English top flight. The previous record was set by Liverpool almost two years ago when they had 83 percent possession during a 2-0 victory against city rivals Everton in April 2022.

Manchester City also achieved the previous record of 83 percent when they defeated Swansea City 5-0 in April 2018.
