Xavi Hernandez will leave Barcelona at the end of the season, and the coach made this known months ago.
However, Catalonia’s club insists on keeping Xavi even after the season ends, offering him a long-term contract. Barcelona’s board is prepared to offer Xavi a “long-term project,” revealed vice president Rafa Yuste after Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Las Palmas.
“I hope and wish that he continues here because we are talking about a long-term project with him, not just one or two seasons. We will try to convince Xavi, it depends on him,” Yuste stated.
However, Xavi is determined to keep the promise he made to leave at the end of the season.
He spoke after the victory against Las Palmas, saying it’s better to leave at the end of the season than to be fired.
“My future? It’s time to rest and think about PSG,” he said. “Step by step, nothing changes. This scenario of staying until the end of the season is better for the club than firing the coach,” Xavi declared.
