“Congratulations to Bayer Leverkusen,” Thomas Tuchel surrenders in the Bundesliga title race.

Bayern Munich’s coach, Thomas Tuchel, has surrendered in the race for the Bundesliga title after a 2-0 loss in the derby against Borussia Dortmund.

This loss for Bayern and Leverkusen’s win against Hoffenheim has widened the gap between the “Aspirins” and the Bavarians to 13 points at the top of the table, with seven games left to play. “Congratulations to Bayer Leverkusen,” were the words Tuchel briefly uttered after the match to Sky Germany, just a few hours after the league leaders Leverkusen overturned the result against Hoffenheim.

When asked if the title race is over, Tuchel replied, “Of course,” stating it’s “very clear” that Xabi Alonso will win his first Bundesliga title. “There’s not much to say after today’s match,” expressed Tuchel, who will leave Bayern in the summer.

Leverkusen has only dropped eight points this season and needs just nine points in their last seven games to be mathematically crowned Bundesliga champions for the first time. Even veteran Thomas Muller, who has won 12 titles in Munich, expressed that it seems impossible for Bayern to win the title this season.

“I’m not a math professor and haven’t done the calculations, but if we’re honest, it seems impossible,” he declared.
