A set of six individual “Air Jordan” athletes worn by basketball legend Michael Jordan during NBA finals were sold for $8 million at an auction in New York, setting a new world record for auctioned sports memorabilia, announced the auction house Sotheby’s on Friday.
The shoes, worn by one of the greatest basketball players in the crucial matches of his six championship career finals in the NBA, became the second-highest price ever achieved for Michael Jordan’s sports relics.
The jersey from the opening game of the 1998 NBA Finals worn by Jordan from the famous “Last Dance” season still holds the world record for any game-worn sports relic, as it was sold for $10.1 million in September 2022.
In December, six jerseys worn by Lionel Messi during Argentina’s triumph in the 2022 World Cup were sold for $7.8 million.
