The Saudi Pro League continues its quest for European stars to strengthen its competition, and in this winter transfer window, they have set their sights on the Croatian legend Luka Modric.
The 38-year-old midfielder has lost significance at Real Madrid under the management of Carlo Ancelotti, with his contract expiring at the end of the current season, fueling speculation about his imminent departure.
With the intention of turning Modric into one of their league stars, the Saudi Pro League has presented Real Madrid with a multimillion-dollar offer to secure his services at this moment.
In addition, the proposal includes a contract for the player that exceeds twice his current salary at Los Blancos.
Al Ittihad is the favorite team to secure Modric’s services, with the Arab club looking to make him a strong midfielder alongside the Croatian, Frenchman N’Golo Kante, and Brazilian Fabinho.
For the 38-year-old, there is a ready contract of two and a half years with a salary of 20 million euros net per season, a sum that is tempting the midfielder to accept the Arab club’s offer.
Apart from Al Ittihad, Al Nassr and Al Hilal have also expressed interest in the transfer of the former Ballon d’Or winner. However, the team led by Marcelo Gallardo is the primary favorite.
This season, Modric has played in 24 matches with Real Madrid, scoring one goal and providing six assists. Nevertheless, he has been benched in many of the games.
